SAGE honored Portland champions for sustainability, Dick and Jeanne Roy, with our inaugural SAGE Awards. With over 200 guests and supporters, the Roys received SAGE’s award for their pioneering efforts over the past twenty years as full-time volunteers to create a sustainable future. Through their twenty years of leadership and service, the Roys founded or co-founded over ten organizations and initiatives, including the Center for Earth Leadership, the Northwest Earth Institute, the Oregon Natural Step Network, and Chess for Success.
At the award ceremony, guest speakers shared heartfelt and powerful stories about the Roys legacy – training, inspiring, and supporting thousands of people to turn ideas for social good into real world projects that safeguard opportunities for coming generations of Americans. When giving the Award to the Roys, SAGE’s President, Ward Greene, said: “If you ask yourself who among us has really walked the walk, who has really put it all out there to give forward, to become generous activists, Jeanne and Dick Roy truly embody that spirit.”
Portland is truly a better place because of the Roys’ leadership and service.
