SAGE and Oregon Coast Aquarium Co-Present 2019 Visiting SAGE, Her Deepness Dr. Sylvia Earle

Big news! Global oceans champion, Dr. Sylvia Earle, has been selected as our 2019 Visiting SAGE to speak about the future of our oceans.
Popularly called Her Deepness by the New Yorker and the New York Times, Earle is an inspiration to millions for her leadership to conserve the world’s oceans. She is the recipient of more than 100 national and international honors including being named Time Magazine’s first Hero for the Planet, a Living Legend by the Library of Congress, and Champion of the Earth by the UN Environment Program.
Mark your calendars for the afternoon of May 19, 2019 for the Visiting SAGE event featuring Sylvia Earle at the Viking Pavilion at Portland State University.

Learn More about Dr. Sylvia Earle

Sylvia Earle is Explorer in Residence at the National Geographic Society, Founder of Mission Blue, Founder of Deep Ocean Exploration and Research, and former Chief Scientist of NOAA. She has received 27 honorary doctorates, has authored more than 200 publications and lead more than 100 expeditions with over 7,000 hours underwater. As a pioneer and champion for women in science, her research concerns the ecology and conservation of marine ecosystems and development of technology for deep sea access.

Earle is the subject of the Emmy® Award Winning Netflix documentary, Mission Blue, and the recipient of more than 100 national and international honors and awards including being named Time Magazine’s first Hero for the Planet, a Living Legend by the Library of Congress, 2014 UNEP Champion of the Earth, Glamour Magazine’s 2014 Woman of the Year, member of the Netherlands Order of the Golden Ark, and winner of the 2009 TED Prize, the Walter Cronkite Award, the 1996 Explorers Club Medal, the Royal Geographic Society 2011 Patron’s Medal, and the National Geographic 2013 Hubbard Medal.[/one_third_last]
