SAGE Panel on our Current Political Climate and Political Discourse
February 18 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Join us for a panel featuring Jack Miller, a political science professor at Portland State University, and Rebecca Tweed, a top political strategist with over a decade of experience on state and local campaigns. Together they will examine the current political climate and discuss ways of promoting a healthy political discourse. They will seek to explain how political polarization breeds distrust, disengagement, and a retreat into opposing political echo chambers, and they will explore ideas for changing the way we practice and talk about politics from across the political divide.
From their different vantage points, Miller and Tweed will elaborate on their ideas about reducing polarization and moving our communities in a direction of a healthy interaction and engagement. They share a commitment to helping Americans with different ideologies learn to work together on common concerns and shared goals, even as they may disagree about what solutions to employ. The event concludes with audience questions and a brief discussion about how political divisiveness affects us personally, how we may have more in common than we think, and what each of us can do to promote a healthier political discourse.Click to Register for this Event
